Our Fleet — Excavators & Earthmoving Plant, East Coast and North East Tasmania

A green Kenworth truck carrying a yellow excavator on a flatbed trailer in a grassy field with trees and a blue sky in the background.

The right machine for the job makes a practical difference to how efficiently the work gets done, how the site is left, and what the job costs. North East Excavations operates a varied, well-maintained fleet across the full range of residential, rural, and civil earthmoving work we carry out across St Helens, Scamander, Binalong Bay, St Marys, Fingal, Scottsdale, Derby, and the broader East Coast and North East Tasmania.

All machinery is operated by trained, experienced operators who know the terrain across this region. Operator training is something we take seriously - it's what allows the machinery to perform to its capability, and it's what produces accurate, clean work that downstream trades can rely on. Whether it's a single-day residential trenching job in St Helens or a multi-week civil construction contract near Scottsdale, the same standard of operation applies.

EXCAVATORS

Komatsu PC78MR - 8-Tonne Zero Tail-Swing Excavator

Our primary residential and tight-access machine. The zero tail-swing design keeps the counterweight within the machine's track width during rotation - meaning it can work right alongside fences, walls, and building lines without the clearance problems a standard excavator creates on confined residential sites across St Helens, Scamander, and the East Coast.

Used for: residential trenching, house site preparation, driveway dig-outs, slab preparation, drainage excavation, and confined-access excavation across St Helens, Scamander, and the East Coast.

Full attachment capability: rock breaker, trenching buckets in multiple widths, general purpose digging buckets.

Kato HD1023 Excavator

A reliable mid-size excavator suited to a wide range of residential and rural earthmoving jobs across the East Coast and North East Tasmania. Handles varied ground conditions across the region without the overhead of a larger machine.

Used for: drainage work, culvert installation, farm track construction, site cuts, and general earthmoving across St Marys, Fingal, and the East Coast.

Komatsu PC400 Excavator - 40-Tonne

Heavy-duty performance for larger rural, civil, and commercial earthmoving jobs. The PC400 brings the reach, digging force, and lifting capacity for projects where smaller machines would be inefficient or impractical - dam excavation, bulk earthworks, civil construction, and large-scale land clearing.

Used for: dam excavation, bulk earthworks, civil construction, commercial developments, heavy-duty land clearing, and large-scale earth moved across Fingal, Scottsdale, Derby, and North East Tasmania.

Hydromek 310 Excavator

A capable 30-tonne excavator well-suited to mid-range civil and rural earthmoving. The Hydromek range is known for its reinforced construction and consistent performance in hard ground conditions - well-matched to the rock and clay terrain found across parts of the East Coast and North East.

Used for: civil construction, road building, hard ground conditions, commercial earthworks, and extended operation rural projects across the East Coast and North East.

EXCAVATOR ATTACHMENTS

Our excavators carry a full range of purpose-specific attachments:

  • Rock breaker - Hard rock excavation, concrete demolition, breaking compacted material and solid rock in the more demanding East Coast and North East ground conditions.

  • Crusher bucket - On-site processing of excavated rock and construction material, reducing the need to cart material off site.

  • Trenching buckets - Multiple widths for precise service and drainage trenching on residential and rural properties across the East Coast.

  • Log grabs - Vegetation clearing, timber handling, and material placement on rural properties around Fingal, St Marys, and the North East.

  • Rippers - Breaking compacted subgrade and rock in harder ground conditions across the ranges.

  • General purpose & digging buckets - Multiple sizes for standard excavation across residential and rural applications.

SUPPORT PLANT

Caterpillar Skid Steer (Bobcat)

Used for material handling, backfill, fine grading, and site clean-up in areas excavators can't efficiently access. Full attachment capability including buckets, forks, and augers.

Used for: site clean-up, backfill in confined areas, rubbish removal following demolition or land clearing, and material handling on residential sites across St Helens and Scamander.

Volvo Road Grader

Accurate formation grading for driveways, rural access roads, and farm track construction and maintenance. Produces smooth, well-prepared surfaces that compact correctly and drain properly.

Used for: farm track construction, road building and road repair, access road and driveway formation grading, and fire break construction across Fingal, Scottsdale, Derby, and North East Tasmania.

A large yellow road roller with a red front plate labeled 'DYNAPAC' is parked on gravel, with a background of tall trees and a partly cloudy sky.

Dynapac Vibrating Compaction Roller

Compaction is what separates a base that lasts from one that doesn't. Without proper compaction, even well-specified road base will settle, shift, and deform under load over time. The Dynapac ensures compaction is done properly on every job.

Used for: compaction on driveway dig-outs, road base compaction, slab preparation sub-bases, and access road construction across the East Coast and North East.

Kenworth 404 Truck - 10-Yarder and Trailer Combination

Heavy-duty haulage for bulk material transport, machinery movement, and site logistics. The 10-yarder and trailer combination provides significant payload capacity for moving materials and equipment efficiently across the East Coast and North East region.

Used for: heavy machinery transport, bulk material haulage, and site logistics across East Coast and North East Tasmania project sites.

Kenworth 404 Truck and Tandem Water Cart

23,500-litre capacity tandem water cart for road construction, dust suppression during earthworks, compaction assist on dry sites, and fire management. One of the higher-capacity water carts operating in the North East region.

Used for: dust suppression on road building and construction sites, compaction assist, site preparation on dry ground, and fire management across the East Coast and North East.

TRAINED OPERATORS - WHY IT MATTERS

Equipment capability is only realised through the person operating it. North East Excavations takes operator training seriously - our operators are trained, experienced in East Coast and North East ground conditions, and understand how to get the most from each piece of machinery in the specific terrain and applications of this region.

That means cleaner trenches, more accurate site cuts, better compaction, and less incidental damage on residential sites. It also means that when a job is more complex than it first appeared - harder ground, unexpected obstacles, tight access - our operators have the experience to work through it rather than create a problem.

From an 8-tonne zero tail-swing excavator for tight residential sites in St Helens and Scamander through to a 40-tonne PC400 for dam excavation and civil construction near Fingal and Scottsdale - our fleet covers the full range of excavation and earthmoving requirements across the East Coast and North East Tasmania.

Experienced operators, properly maintained machinery, and the local knowledge to match the right equipment to every job.
