Our Fleet - Excavators & Plant Hire Across East Coast and North East Tasmania
The right machine for the job isn't just an efficiency consideration - it affects the quality of the work, the condition the site is left in, and what the job costs. North East Excavations operates a varied, well-maintained fleet matched to the range of residential, rural, and civil earthmoving work we carry out across the East Coast and North East Tasmania.
All machinery is operated by trained, experienced operators who know the terrain across this region. Operator training is something we take seriously - it's what allows the machinery to do what it's capable of, and it's what produces clean, accurate work that downstream trades can rely on.
EXCAVATORS
Komatsu PC78MR - 8-Tonne Zero Tail-Swing Excavator
Our primary residential and tight-access machine. The zero tail-swing design is what makes this excavator the right tool for confined urban and residential sites across St Helens, Scamander, Binalong Bay, and St Marys - the counterweight stays within the track width during rotation, allowing the machine to work right alongside fences, walls, and building lines without creating clearance problems.
Good for: residential service trenching, site cuts on confined blocks, driveway dig-outs in tight spaces, drainage excavation around existing buildings, residential work anywhere access is limited.
Kato HD1023 Excavator
A reliable mid-size excavator suited to residential earthmoving, drainage, culvert installation, and rural property works across the East Coast and North East. Handles varied ground conditions across the region.
Good for: drainage excavation, culvert installation, farm track works, medium-scale site cuts, rural property earthmoving around Fingal, St Marys, and the North East.
Komatsu PC400 Excavator - 40-Tonne
Heavy-duty performance for larger rural earthmoving, dam excavation, bulk site works, and more demanding civil applications. The PC400 brings the reach, digging force, and lifting capacity for jobs that smaller machines would take significantly longer on.
Good for: dam excavation, large bulk earthworks, heavy-duty rural jobs, material loading and handling on larger projects across Fingal, Scottsdale, Derby, and the North East.
Hydromek 310 Excavator
A capable 30-tonne excavator well-suited to mid-range civil and rural earthmoving. The Hydromek range is known for its reinforced construction and cab comfort in long operating days - and for performing well in the hard rock conditions found in parts of the East Coast and North East.
Good for: mid-scale civil works, hard ground conditions, rural road construction, extended operation earthmoving projects.
EXCAVATOR ATTACHMENTS
Our excavators carry a full range of purpose-specific attachments:
Rock breaker - Hard rock excavation, concrete demolition, breaking compacted material and solid rock in the more demanding East Coast and North East ground conditions.
Crusher bucket - On-site processing of excavated rock and construction material, reducing the need to cart material off site.
Trenching buckets - Multiple widths for precise service and drainage trenching on residential and rural properties across the East Coast.
Log grabs - Vegetation clearing, timber handling, and material placement on rural properties around Fingal, St Marys, and the North East.
Rippers - Breaking compacted subgrade and rock in harder ground conditions across the ranges.
General purpose & digging buckets - Multiple sizes for standard excavation across residential and rural applications.
SUPPORT PLANT
Caterpillar Skid Steer (Bobcat)
For material handling, backfill, fine grading, and site clean-up in areas excavators can't efficiently access. Regularly used on residential sites across St Helens and Scamander where ground disturbance needs to be minimised and the area around the work kept clean and tidy.
Attachments: slasher, mulcher, auger, trencher, stump grinder,4 in1 bucket, smudge bar, cement mixer
Good for: residential site clean-up, backfill in confined areas, material handling, fine surface grading.
Volvo Road Grader
Formation grading for driveways, rural access roads, and farm track construction and maintenance across Fingal, St Marys, Scottsdale, and the East Coast. Accurate gradient work and smooth, well-prepared surfaces that compact correctly.
Good for: driveway formation grading, farm track maintenance, rural road construction, accurate gradient preparation across the East Coast and North East.
Dynapac Vibrating Compaction Roller
Road base and sub-base compaction for driveways, access roads, and prepared platforms. Compaction is what separates a base that lasts from one that doesn't - without it, even good-quality road base from St Helens Quarries won't reach its full structural potential. The Dynapac ensures compaction is done properly, not just assumed.
Good for: driveway sub-base compaction, road base compaction on access roads and rural tracks, site preparation compaction across the East Coast and North East.
Kenworth 404 Truck - 10-Yarder and Trailer Combination
Heavy-duty haulage for bulk material transport, quarry operations, and site logistics. The 10-yarder and trailer combination provides significant payload capacity for moving materials efficiently across the East Coast region.
Good for: bulk material haulage, quarry logistics, large-volume material movement across East Coast and North East project sites.
Kenworth 404 Truck and Tandem Water Cart
23,500-litre capacity tandem water cart for road construction, dust suppression during earthworks, compaction assist on dry sites, and firefighting applications. One of the higher-capacity water carts operating in the North East region.
Good for: road construction dust suppression, compaction assist on dry ground, site preparation on dusty sites, fire management.
TRAINED OPERATORS - WHY IT MATTERS
Equipment capability is only realised through the person operating it. North East Excavations takes operator training seriously - our operators are trained, experienced in East Coast and North East ground conditions, and understand how to get the most from each piece of machinery in the specific terrain and applications of this region.
That means cleaner trenches, more accurate site cuts, better compaction, and less incidental damage on residential sites. It also means that when a job is more complex than it first appeared - harder ground, unexpected obstacles, tight access - our operators have the experience to work through it rather than create a problem.
